or should i say nzed?? whatever...
well anywayz highwayz, it's been three weeks - going on four weeks - since i arrived in auckland for school/work. through grace of god and family i finally left the home country and am now attempting to start a new life on foreign shores. not an easy start but well, no pain no gain. school's kinda boring & hard at the same time, but maybe it's because i've been soooo out of school for such a long time..? my going to school here is just like catching up to international standards, since even though i already have my bachelors, the ph education system is way "kulelat" compared to those from first-world countries, hence the need for upgrading. anyway, my main purpose here is to get a good job after graduation, and most international companies only recognise graduates from schools with international standards. so much for getting an expensive university education from one of the supposedly top schools in ph. but never mind that; i'm here now and i'm gonna have to make the most of it. i still haven't found a job yet, but i'm kinda picky and not nearly motivated enough so it's my bad. i'm confident though that i can find one before the month's up. cross fingers, everyone.
i miss my cats, bro, sis, niece, and bro-in-law. i've been away before, back when i worked in another city for three years, but it wasn't really that bad coz i get to go back whenever i want as long as i got approved leaves. it was just a matter of 10 hours by slow boat or an hour by plane, and maybe php1500. now, not only do i need to cross miles of ocean to go back home, travel time takes as long as 15 hours (3 stops) by plane, but it's so frakkin expensive, like php30-40k, and that's on a budget airline. so i'll probably get the chance to go visit after a year, or more, and after saving up to afford the tickets. well, that's still a long way off so i'll put off thinking about that for now...
so anyway... i just wanted to add that i was interviewed today by a services company for a cleaning job. the lady interviewer said there was no issue with me; it's just that i live so far away (the cleaning service is based in auckland cbd, and i live in a suburb an hour away; cheap rent), and the minimum wage i might be making will probably not compensate for the expenses i'll incur for travel and whatnot. she'll call me in a couple weeks for training, so i'll see how it goes. funny thing: the lady receptionist who met me at the door looked like bamf carol from walking dead, while lady interviewer looked like a toned-down version of mrs frederic from warehouse 13. btw, while walking up & down k'road to get to the company office, this girl from unicef was trying to flag me down for donations (definitely) and i had to signal her off coz i was in a hurry (took me 15 minutes brisk walk to reach the services company office; pant... gasp!). just my luck, i forgot about her on my way back, and when i crossed the road to get to queen st, she flagged me down again. so i got roped into donating monthly for unicef. yeah i know, i'm such a sucker. i should feel like a broke chinese, but for some reason i don't. it's for a good cause. and the girl (young lady, maybe? she mentioned she's from argentina and she recently got married) said that whatever i give for the cause will return to me in spades. or something like that. again, cross fingers everyone. so, after that, i went back to school to look for the usb drive i left behind a couple days ago. i didn't hold out much hope of getting it back after two days, but you never know. anyway, thankfully it was still there. also, i got to chat with the student advisor, and she treated me out to lunch. when she learned i still haven't got a job, she gave me $150. how's that for an early payback?
hope everything goes smoothly from here on out...
